As the CEO of Unborn Entertainment I hear that line a lot. People are always talking about they can do this and they can do that, but most of the time they are just full of it. I have been in this industry professionally for about four years now, and let me tell you, most of the people don't have the tenacity, resilience, or talent to make it. A lot of the artists want to rap or go to the studio when it's convenient or when they want to show off to their friends that they can "smoke" the mic (If that's what you want to call it). They are quite content with having the fame only in the eyes of their family and friends. Get a grip! The world is a big place and just because you "lock" up a block or a small neighborhood, don't think you have achieved success. Those same friends and family members are the ones who will be asking you to give them a free copy of your CD when it comes out. Now what does that tell you what they think about you and your music?
Music is something you work at every day. If you're serious about it, you can't ever stop thinking about it, you can't ever stop working on it, you are addicted to it! You must give it everything you got!!! So ask yourself after you read this blog, am I a rapper or do I just say I'm a rapper.
Like I always say, most "so called" artists want the "shine," (hell, who doesn't) but they refuse to do work to make that happen. An artist's success is like a Genie's lamp. It is rubbed and rubbed by the artist until metal meets bone. Once the lamp shines, the Genie grants wishes. Some artists expect to go into the studio, spit a few hot tracks and think the millions will start to roll in. Wake up! It doesn't work like that. It's a long grinding process, and unless you are willing to live in the studio, learn the business, stay focused, and push until you can't push no more, then push some more, don't fix your mouth to say, "I want to be a rapper." This isn't as easy as it looks!
