Do You Believe the Music Industry Is Losing Money?
Here's my opinion on the above question. I think what has happened is that the music industry has become saturated with talent or lack thereof causing the revenues to be dispersed at a wider spectrum. Before the technological advances of digital audio workstations, the music industry had everything on lock. If you wanted to record your music, you had to go to expensive recording studios. Today, this is not the case. You can literally record music from a laptop and burn it to a CD or send it across the World Wide Web to millions of people. This has allowed any artist to promote and market their music like never before. As a result, this redirects the revenue of the major labels in the music industry to independent artists.
Do You Believe Artists Are Losing Money?
Well, I think the end of the above paragraph answers this question. I think what's happening is that the money is no longer being channeled to the major labels in the industry and then disseminated or filtered to the artist. The artist can now bypass the labels and increase their profit margin exponentially because they don't need the major labels to record, market, promote, or package their music anymore. Just like this quick clip here.
The money isn't going into the pockets of big time music executives and a few artists who are at the top. It's going into the pockets of mostly indepenndant artists. I don't buy their story that artists are losing money. So when you see an article that says the music industry is losing money, it is true to an extent! However, THEY are losing money, NOT independent artists.
Do You Believe the Music Industry Is Falling Off?
In my opinion, the music industry is doing just fine. There is a lot more music out there. Some good, some bad. Well, a lot of it is bad but that's the nature of the beast. Nonetheless, it's out there! It's just that the major labels can't harness the growth of this industry. So until then they will say and publicize that they are hurting. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE! To be honest, I'm glad that the major labels, radio stations, TV music stations, etc. can't dictate to me what music I should listen to or like anymore. Today, I can research any music, any artist and make my own decisions.
What do you think?
